Carnatic Collective

Udupa Foundation started an initiative – Carnatic Collective, a series of short thematic performances of accomplished musicians who explored different Carnatic concepts through the eyes of wisdom and enthusiasm. It provided an opportunity for the young musicians to perform and learn from the masters of Carnatic music as much of the learning happens on stage, sitting beside a revered icon.

Carnatic Collective 01

In the first edition, it acted as a bridge to generations of musicians to connect. Many got a brief idea of the concepts of Carnatic music and some got the interest to listen, learn and appreciate the art form.

Carnatic Collective 02

The second edition had ensembles of Carnatic music involving an array of musicians. Each episode was specially arranged and composed by revered Vidwans and Vidushis.

Workshops & Lecture Demonstrations

Being true to their vision, Udupa Foundation has also organized informative, intellectual and innovative workshops and lecture demonstrations on various aspects of Carnatic music and dance with a focus on art enthusiast’s, students and performing artists. Some of these presentations were led by legendary musicians emphasizing the nuances of Carnatic music and dance.

Documentaries on Art and Artists

Udupa Foundation has been instrumental in paying homage to senior and legendary musicians by bringing in some of the most treasured moments in the life of an artist in the form of documentaries.

Vidwan Guru Karaikudi Mani

On the occasion of the 75th birthday of Mridangam legend Vidwan Guru Karaikudi Mani, the foundation premiered a documentary reflecting his musical journey and some rare performances.

Mridangam Vidwan A V Anand

The foundation also took pride in bringing out “Ananda Vaibhavam” – a documentary on the legendary Mridangam Vidwan A V Anand, outlining his musical journey for the last 8 decades.

UMF@Home

During the pandemic, Udupa Foundation coined the idea of bringing home the magical moments of the Udupa Music Festival in collaboration with shaale.com. It was an online fundraising effort towards supporting musicians and instrument makers who faced financial hardships due to COVID-19 related cancellations. Subscribers could watch six magnificent concerts from the Udupa Music Festival in full and re-experience the effervescence of live concerts. Through the generous support of the subscribers and the artists, the foundation was able to disburse an amount of nearly 14.75 Lakhs INR supporting 132 needy artists. The foundation also organized concerts through social media platforms and provided an opportunity for artists in unprecedented times.
